Pittsburg Man Charged for Shooting Death of Roommate

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg Police Department filed murder charges Thursday, August 4th, against a man accused of fatally shooting his roommate after an argument on Tuesday morning.

According to the police, the incident began when Ryon Evan Wittlin, 47, called 911 and stated he shot his roommate, identified as Nicholas Ryan Shaeffer, 23, after the two got into an argument. Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of East Trident Drive around 5:30 a.m.

Officers arrived on the scene and found Shaeffer’s body inside the residence, as well as the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.

Wittlin is currently in custody at the county jail in Martinez in lieu of $1 million bail.
