Apple Valley Murder Suspect Killed in Torrance Jewelry Store Robbery

Keon Bailey

APPLE VALLEY – Investigators have identified a 20-year-old man, a recent parolee, as the likely suspect in the February 29 killings of an elderly husband and wife along with a string of other crimes.

Keon Bailey, of Lancaster, was shot and killed during an attempted jewelry store robbery in Torrance, which is in Los Angeles County. Bailey has been linked to an armed robbery in the San Bernardino County city of Apple Valley and a home invasion robbery that also took place in Apple Valley.

Law enforcement records revealed that Bailey had been released on parole from state prison on February 18, his crimes ranging from burglary, possession of stolen property, rape, grand theft, trespassing, and sexual battery.

On February 29, Louis Giuntini, 95, and his wife, Rose, 92, were found dead by a family friend in their Apple Valley residence in the 19900 block of State 18 Outer Highway. The circumstances surrounding their deaths were ruled suspicious by the Specialized Investigations Division that were called into the case.

On Thursday, an investigation led by Det. Ryan Smith and Sgt. Jason Radeleff released information in which evidence has linked the double killing to Bailey. That evidence, however, has not yet been scientifically determined, they said.

Evidence regarding the four crimes recovered from each scene is consistent to all locations, according to investigators.

On February 28 just before 11 a.m., an armed robbery took place at Neil’s Donuts in the 18100 block of Highway 18 in Apple Valley. Surveillance video from the shop helped determine positive identification of Bailey in that crime.

On March 6, the home invasion robbery that took place on the 15600 block of Myalon Rd. in Apple Valley yielded evidence that was consistent with both the Giuntini killings and the donut robbery, said investigators.

On March 8, investigators said Bailey tried to rob the Leilani Jewelry store in Torrance, but he was shot and killed by the owner of the shop.

As investigations continue, detectives have located property that was reported stolen from victims in Apple Valley.
