Suspect Arrested for Assaulting and Robbing Store Clerk

JURUPA VALLEY— Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a suspect believed to have assaulted and robbed a store clerk before fleeing on foot.

The Jurupa Valley Police Department received a call on Monday, May 18 at 1:38 PM regarding an armed robbery that occurred on the 9000 block of Mission Boulevard.  Once they arrived at the scene, witnesses reported that a male suspect entered the business, likely the Sportswear Outlet, where he began browsing the shoes. The suspect requested that a store employee assist him with retrieving a box that he was interested in purchasing.

When the employee turned his back to retrieve the shoes, the suspect bludgeoned him in the back of the head with an unidentified hard object. The blow was severe enough that the employee crumpled to the floor. While the clerk remained on the floor unconscious, the suspect struck the employee several more times in the face and body, causing bodily injury.

While the clerk was incapacitated, the suspect then removed the victim’s wallet from his pants pocket and fled the location on foot. A witness who was in the parking lot when the suspect fled followed after him. The witness was able to assist law enforcement while following the suspect, and provided further the information to responding officers.

With the assistance of air support from the Riverside Police Department and a K-9 from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the officers conducted a thorough search of the area. Ultimately, the suspect was located approximately a half mile away from the scene of the crime.

De Angelo Green, a 24-year-old male transient from the Jurupa Valley area, was identified as the assailant. Arrested at the scene for armed robbery, burglary, and assault with a deadly weapon, Green was then booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center and is being held on $30,000 bail.  According to a press release, the victim was treated at a local hospital and released.
