Police Arrest Paroled Gang Member for Weapons and Narcotics Violations

BAKERSFIELD — A paroled gang member carrying a loaded gun and in possession of illegal  drugs was arrested on Friday night in Bakersfield.

Richard Gutierrez, 21, was booked into the Kern County Jail on multiple charges including, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance while armed with a firearm and participation in a criminal street gang. His bail has been set at $127,500.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, deputies with the Sheriff’s Office Gang Suppression Section went to the 800 block of Normandy Drive in Bakersfield to conduct a parole search at around 7 p.m. on March 28. While executing the warrant, deputies said they made contact with Gutierrez as they approached the front of the residence.

During a search of Gutierrez’s person, deputies said they located a loaded handgun, and undisclosed amount of suspected methamphetamine and narcotic paraphernalia.
