Unlicensed hunters lured, killed black bear, authorities say

Two men were arrested for allegedly luring a black bear into a home, killing it and then trying to dispose of its body.

Jason Scott Wilkison, 43, of Grass Valley, and Christopher Art Nunley, 54, of North San Juan, were arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession and killing of a bear. The men were formally charged this week.

The bear was killed in April, but authorities only recently completed their investigation.

They say the two men used bait to lure the bear into a home south of Lake Tahoe. The suspects allegedly shot it, then tried to skin it and dispose of its body in a shallow grave.

Neither of them had a hunting license.

The five month investigation was prompted because locals who heard about the killing notified authorities.
