Man with mental illness arrested in triple stabbing, 2 deaths

The Santa Clara Sheriff’s Department is reporting the stabbing death of a one-year-old baby boy and a 48-year-old woman. Sheriff’s deputies investigated the scene Wednesday of a triple-stabbing in unincorporated east San Jose, on Viewmont Avenue near Alum Rock Avenue, that included a three-year-old girl who was sent to Valley Medical Center with life threatening injuries. The woman victim, later identified as Yolanda Ramirez, was said to be the grandmother of the two children and babysitting at the time. The boy was also identified as Gabriel Ortiz.

The father of the young girl arriving at the home revealed the gruesome discovery of the woman and children suffering severe stab wounds.  San Jose Police and the Santa Clara Sheriff’s department as of late Wednesday were working in unison to lock down the area looking for the assailant, who may have escaped on foot. Authorities were doing a house-to-house search as of 3:30 in the afternoon for what they described as a known person of interest.
According to Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Deputy Kurtis Stenderup, 27-year-old Reuben Ramirez was identified as the person of interest who was living at the home at the time of the incident.   More than 50 officers were thought to have been looking for a Ramirez in the small neighborhood nestled in the east side hills. He was being described as a 5’6″ tall, 210 pound Hispanic male with black hair and brown eyes. He is said to be the son of the woman who was killed, and the uncle of the two children.

The Viewmont Avenue neighborhood was the scene of an area wide search for Ramirez

Ramirez, according to Deputy Stenderup, was arrested in San Francisco at the end of Wednesday evening. Ramirez has a history of mental illness.  However family members did not suspect that he was capable of doing such a horrific crime.
