Teen nabbed in attempted purse snatching

VACAVILLE – On Monday afternoon a 16-year-old male accosted a 77-year-old woman in the parking lot of Costco, on Hume Way, in an attempt to steal her purse. The names of the suspect and victim have not been released, but according to Vacaville PD the male, a minor, was arrested for robbery and elder abuse.

The incident began when the teenage boy came up behind the elder woman and grabbed her purse, trying to remove it from her shoulder. This caused the victim to fall down. She held on to her purse and was dragged along the ground as the suspect continued his attempts to steal it. The victim began calling for help, alerting Costco employees and others nearby who responded by running over to help her. As they approached, the suspect let go of the woman’s purse and ran off. Store personnel took off after him, caught up a short distance away and held him until officers arrived on the scene. Thanks to their quick response and willingness to help, the minor was arrested and booked into Solano County Juvenile Hall.
