Santa Maria Man Arrested for Strong Armed Robbery

SANTA MARIA – A Santa Maria man was arrested on suspicion of strong armed robbery and a parole violation on Thanksgiving Day after he allegedly robbed an unidentified man on the street.

According to police, Anthony Wayne Hayley, 44, of Santa Maria was taken into custody and booked at Santa Barbara County Jail after police responded to a report of a disturbance in the 1500 block of S. Broadway just after 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers learned that an alleged strong armed robbery had just occurred and the victim of the robbery, along with several witnesses, were chasing Hayley, who fled the area on a bicycle after taking the 23-year-old victim’s wallet, police said.

Officers located Hayley a few blocks away from the scene of the alleged robbery, where he was arrested and transported to jail. The victim’s wallet was recovered and he wasn’t injured in the incident, police said.
