Young man shot and killed while with 12-year-old girl

A man was shot and killed in front of a 12-year-old relative September 25th in Long Beach. 20-year-old Montreal Hill, 19-year-old Eric Hubbard, and a 15-year-old juvenile have all been charged with gang-related murder after killing 20-year-old Gerardo Placencia.

The shooting occurred near the corner of 7th and Rose in Long Beach

The suspects first approached Placencia at 8:50 PM in the area of 7th Street and Rose Avenue. Placencia had been walking with the 12-year-old girl, who was riding her scooter just in front of him, when they happened to pass the suspects as they were leaving a local business.

The suspects confronted and asked him what gang he was from. Fearing that an incident might occur, Placencia quickened his pace and did not respond. As the suspects began to pursue, one of them produced a firearm and fired multiple times, hitting Placencia in the upper torso.

Upon seeing Placencia get shot, the girl went into a local business to ask for assistance as the suspects fled on foot. When officers arrived, they found Placencia lying on the ground with an open gunshot wound. Paramedics transported Placencia to a local hospital, where succumbed to his injuries.

Long Beach Police Department Spokeswoman Lisa Massacani said that no motive has yet been established in Placencia’s murder.
