Rape Suspect Arrested After Two Separate Attacks

MURRIETA – Police arrested a 38-year-old man who is suspected of raping a 60-year-old woman last week, and then returning two hours later and raping her again.

Frank Wyatt Kelly, of Murrieta, appeared in court on Tuesday after police arrested him at his home on suspicion of multiple sex offenses and robbery. He is being held on $1 million bail at the Southwest Detention Center in nearby French Valley.

Frank Wyatt Kelly is accused of twice raping a woman after initially offering her his help

Sgt. Phil Gomez said the assaults apparently took place on Wednesday, June 13, when Kelly offered to help the woman unload items from her car at her Murrieta home. Kelly left, said Gomez, but later returned, entered the woman’s home without permission and sexually assaulted her. He also took money before he left. About two hours later, he returned to the woman’s home, entered without permission and sexually assaulted her for a second time.

She answered the door, said police, because she was expecting a neighbor. The victim reported the assaults the next day. Kelly was arrested at his residence in the 24000 block of Bearskin Circle, which is located across the city from the victim’s home. Gomez said the victim was afraid of Kelly, which was why she did not immediately report the attacks. Initially, police said Kelly befriended the victim while helping her unload her car with items into her garage.

Police said the 60-year-old was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. They said she gave an excellent description of the suspect, including tattoos and the name he used when he initially made contact with her.

Court records show that Kelly has prior convictions for assault, including an arrest last year of being under the influence of drugs.
