San Bernardino Police Trying to Extradite Sexual Molestation Suspect From Nevada

SAN BERNARDINO – Las Vegas police caught a suspected child molester wanted in San Bernardino last week. On Tuesday, the process for extraditing Michael Ray White, 60, back to California began, said San Bernardino police.

White is wanted for molesting a 13-year-old girl that he had picked up in Lancaster on Jan. 6, driving her back to a San Bernardino motel where he engaged in sexual activity, according to the allegations. Lancaster is about 35 miles from San Bernardino. White escaped San Bernardino police before he could be captured. He had been spotted in various communities near San Bernardino, including an area veteran’s hospital in nearby Loma Linda.

San Bernardino Police Capt. Gwendolyn Waters said White was accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting her after meeting her on a social networking site.” Known to be driving a 2011 white, four-door Kia, White managed to elude police for several days. On Jan. 11, security officers at the Golden Nugget Hotel spotted White, recognizing his face and description from a wanted flyer that had been posted by San Bernardino police.

San Bernardino Police Capt. Gwendolyn Waters said the security officers alerted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police’s Fugitive Apprehension Team. “They (the security officers) detained White,” said Waters, “and called officers from Las Vegas Metro who placed him under arrest.”  She said San Bernardino detectives are currently undergoing the legal process to bring him back to California to face molestation charges.

Waters said, “The ongoing investigation into this child molestation, detectives developed information that Michael White was possibly in Las Vegas. They passed this information on” … to the apprehension task force unit.

White was spotted at 4:45 a.m. on Jan. 11, she said.  Las Vegas is a three-hour drive from San Bernardino.
