Transient arrested after pointing pistol

Tracey Ballew

Atascadero Police (APD) arrested a female transient after she allegedly threatened a man and woman with a gun on Saturday night at transient camp located near Atascadero Creek.

The 42-year-old Tracey Ballew was charged with suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon using a handgun, according to a police press release.

Atascadero officers received a dispatch at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Saturday to the creek area near Capistrano Avenue and Sycamore Road after a caller reported hearing a fight about a gun.

According to police, officers arrived and interviewed a man and a woman who stated Ballew pointed a gun at their heads. Police also stated the trio reportedly had an argument about “tenant rights” regarding their transient camp. Police said Ballew had left the scene by the time APD arrived.

After establishing a perimeter and requesting assistance from San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office and a police dog from the Paso Robles Police Department, the dog found Ballew hiding in the creek area near the transient camp, police said.

After being booked at County Jail, Ballew’s bail was set at $50,000.
