FONTANA – An armed robber forced a store employee to handcuff himself while he ran off with an undisclosed amount of money early this week.
On Wednesday, Fontana police were still searching for a black suspect, 5-feet-5, 150 pounds, age 24 to 28 years who pulled a handgun on the employee at the Aqua Light Water store on Arrow Blvd.
“Near as the victim could tell, it was a real gun,” said Sgt. Jeff Decker. “We have robberies rather sporadically. They’re frequent, but different targets, different people, closer to the freeway for easy (getaway) access. This was more middle of town.”
According to police, the suspect, who was wearing a long, baggy dark shirt, dark pants, a white baseball cap and black gloves ordered the employee to hand over cash. Afterward, the suspect forced the employee into the bathroom where he was asked to handcuff himself to the railing.
After the suspect left, the handcuffed employee broke off the railing and called emergency services.
