Gun Wielding Burglar Arrested After Confronting Woman in Her Home

IRVINE, CA – A brief manhunt, the lock-down of a school and ultimately an arrest, were all the result of a residential burglary in which the suspect confronted the victim with a gun.

Hung Trong Do, a 31-year-old parolee and resident of Stanton, was taken into custody by Irvine police Wednesday afternoon, June 3rd, after they responded to a witness report of a “suspicious person” near the scene of the burglary.

According to Police, they were called to a residence in the 100 block of Del Carlo in response to a residential robbery that had just happened.

A man had reportedly entered a home through an open garage door and confronted a female resident with a gun, demanding she give him her money. While the victim gave the man $40 dollars from her purse, her husband arrived home from running errands.

The suspect turned the gun on the husband, backed him out of the house at gunpoint, and fled once outside.

Within minutes, Irvine police were conducting a systematic search of the area, aided by K-9 units and a sheriff’s helicopter. An area elementary school was also put in lock down for about an hour and a half as the incident unfolded.

As the search progressed, police received reports of a “suspicious person” in the nearby 500 block of Cardiff. Police were quickly able to track down the suspicious person, who turned out to be Do, identify him as the robbery suspect and arrest him.

A further search near the scene of the arrest turned up a semi-automatic handgun and ammunition magazine in some bushes. Do was also found to be in possession of $40 dollars, the bills matching the denominations the victim had handed over from her purse.

Do is reportedly a parolee and pled guilty to first degree burglary in 2008.
