Irvine Bank Robber’s Escape Foiled by Police

IRVINE, CA – A bank robbery suspect has been arrested following an afternoon holdup that included threats of shooting a teller.Stephen Bustanoby, 56, of 730 Breeze Hill Road, #282, in Vista, CA, was apprehended shortly after 2:30 pm, Wednesday, when police responded to reports of a bank robbery that had just taken place.

According to Police, the suspect – described as a white male wearing a gray baseball cap – entered the bank and demanded a teller give him money or else he’d shoot them.

The teller complied, handing over an unknown amount of cash, at which point the suspect exited the bank and made his escape in a green Honda.

Police arrived on the scene in the 4500 block of Barranca Parkway soon after being alerted to the robbery and were quickly able to locate, stop and capture Bustanoby without incident as he attempted to flee.

Money stolen during the robbery was recovered from the suspect but no weapon was found.
