Booze Allegedly Helps Porsche to Flip

COSTA MESA – A late night solo crash that injured both the 18-year-old male driver and his 38-year-old female passenger also resulted in a charge of driving under the influence for the young man.

According to police, a witness reported a speeding blue Porsche heading south near Bear St. and Paularino at 11:39 pm. The Porsche careened off the road and into an electrical box before flipping and coming to rest on its roof.

The driver, Dominick Anthony McCoy, 18, of Upland, suffered a gash to his head and was arrested for DUI before being released to the medical staff at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. His passenger, Dorothy Dunlap, 38, of Newport Beach, suffered multiple abrasions and was also treated at Western Medical Center.

Police say when they arrived on the scene they saw McCoy’s injured head hanging out of the convertible.

“It looked like his head had been dragged on the asphalt,” said Costa Mesa police Sergeant Darrel Rainy.

A heavy rescue operation was required to cut McCoy out of the 1996 Porsche Carrera.

The Orange County Register reports that police did not even realize there was a passenger until they heard Dunlap screaming, “Help – Get me out!”

Dunlap did not require being cut from the vehicle but was immediately transported to Western Medical by Costa Mesa Fire Department personnel.
