Woman Kills Motorcyclist in Elk Grove

Elk Grove, Calif. — A motorcyclist was rear ended and killed by an alleged drunk driver in Elk Grove Saturday night.

The collision  occurred near the intersection of East Stockton Blvd. and Teresa Way around 10:30 p.m. Rebecca Vela, 33 a resident of Sacramento was driving her 1997 Acura TL when she reportedly struck the motorcyclist throwing him off his bike.  

The Sacramento County Coroner identified the victim  as, Stanely Franklin Spaeth, 54, no further information was available.

 

Vela, who was arrested at the scene, was reportedly showing signs of inebriation. Officer Christopher Trim, Elk Grove Public Information Officer (PIO) refused to release her blood alcohol level or any prior violations. She was transported to the Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of murder and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs.

 

According to witness statements Vela was driving into oncoming traffic at high rates of speed prior to the accident. When she swerved back into the correct lane she struck Spaeth.

 

The Elk Grove Police Department Traffic Bureau will be conducting an investigation into the collision. Officer Trim said that, Vela has been charged with felony murder and a felony DUI. No photo of Vela is available due to the ongoing investigation. Vela is currently being held at Sacramento County Jail and is being held without bail.
