Ex-soldier in jail after family fight

CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. —  A New Year’s Eve row left one man in the hospital and another in custody.

According to the Citrus Heights Police Department officials, at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, one of their officers spotted 22-year-old Carl Scott Riblett, of 2751 Don Juan Drive, Rancho Cordova, and a woman standing next to a body in the 6600 block of Sunrise Boulevard.

Riblett fled the scene and eluded officers again after a perimeter had been established. Riblett, a former U.S. Army Ranger, climbed onto the roof of an auto repair shop to evade capture. However, police located the suspect and arrested him.

According to police, Riblett assaulted the victim — his cousin — after an unidentified  young woman had been punched in the head, reportedly by the cousin. The victim, whose name was not immediately available, was taken to Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, with what police called “major head trauma.”

Charged with felony assault and evading police, Riblett was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, his bail set at $40,000.
