Murder suspect calls cops, gives himself up

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif  (Jan. 4) —  One man is in police custody after he allegedly shot another man and then called 911 to report the incident.

According to Sacramento Sheriff’s Department spokesman Capt. Scott Jones, 56-year-old Kenneth Mulligan, who lived in the Royal Park Trailer Court at 2910 Routier Road, contacted law enforcement after he allegedly shot 50-year-old Darrel Cadinha, 50. Deputies arrived, finding both Mulligan and a handgun at the scene. Cadinha was found inside a mobile home, with a single gunshot wound to the head. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Jones reported that both men knew one another and that there had been other people around when the shooting happened. While some media reports have speculated that the shooting was part of a love triangle
gone bad, Jones said that both the suspect and witnesses were being interviewed and no possible motive had been released to the media.

According to sheriff department records, Mulligan has been charged with murder and booked into the Sacramento County Jail. No bail has been set.
