Cop arrested, charged with theft

FOLSOM (Oct. 8 ) — A sergeant with the Folsom Police Department was
arrested Wednesday on allegations that he stole used cooking oil from a
Sacramento rendering plant.

A departmental press release stated that Sgt. John Landahl, who has been with the Folsom police for 22 years, is suspected of stealing about $350 worth of oil from the Sacramento
Rendering Company.

The oil is used to make biodiesel, an alternative fuel for diesel-powered vehicles.

The press release stated that the alleged theft occurred in March and was reported to the Folsom Police Department in June. Upon turning himself in on Sept. 30, Landahl was released on his own recognizance and placed on paid administrative leave.

Landahl remains on leave until an internal affairs investigation is completed, the press release said.
