Murder suspect in custody

SACRAMENTO (Oct. 2, 2008) — Detectives from the sheriff’s department’s homicide and major crimes bureaus arrested a 27-year-old Sacramento man for a murder committed last April.

According to a press release, sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Tim Curran said that Albert Arthur Dennis at a home located in the 5100 block of Southwest Avenue. Curran said that the detectives’ “extensive investigation” had indicated Dennis as the suspect responsible for two shootings that happened on April 12 of this year that left one person dead.

In the release, Curran stated that on April 12, deputies had responded to the report of a shooting in the 5700 block of Nina Way. Upon arrival, the deputies  found 27-year-old Amber Manoa inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound to her lower body. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Several minutes later, Curran said in the release, deputies responded to a call from a homeowner in the 5800 block of Sampson Boulevard. A homeowner had reported a man was ringing his doorbell, asking for help and saying he had been shot. Deputies arrived, discovering a 27-year-old male suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his foot.

Deputies quickly determined the two shootings had been connected, Curran said.

Sheriff’s detectives believe that Dennis is responsible for shooting both Manoa and the other victim during a a robbery that had gone bad. In the press release, Curran said that “the investigation is ongoing to determine if additional suspects are involved in the crime.

Dennis was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on the charges of murder and assault with a deadly weapon. He was arraigned in court Monday afternoon and remains in custody without bail.
