Citrus Heights mother arrested for attempted murder

CITRUS HEIGHTS — A 36-year-old mother was arrested the night of Sept. 29 on charges of attempted murder after calling 911 dispatchers, claiming that she had drowned her young daughter.

According to a Citrus Heights Police Department media release, officers responded to a call at the 6800 block of Crosswoods Circle, where they found Fotini Huntley standing outside the residence. Searching the home, officers found the 2-year-old girl laying on the floor and unconscious, Sgt. Rich Wheaton reported.

“Our officers immediately started resuscitation efforts,” Wheaton said. He said that Sacramento Metro Fire Department personnel arrived on scene. “From that point on, the victim was transported to the UC Davis Children’s Hospital.”

The young girl’s condition had been listed as critical, he said.

Huntley was arrested and booked at the Sacramento County Jail, Wheaton said. Along with the attempted murder charge, the mother has also been charged with felony corporal punishment or injury to a child and felony endangering the health or life of a child.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Web site, Huntley is ineligible for bail. Her next court appearance is set for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 15.
