Women Arrested Trying to Smuggle Meth into Jail

VICTORVILLE – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies said on Friday that two women, both of Mexico, were arrested while trying to smuggle drugs into a jail on June 20. On June 27, deputies reported the arrests of Danahe Alcantar, 25, of Mexico, and Lluvia Espinoza, 29, of Mexico on charges of possession of a controlled substance and attempting to bring controlled substances into a jail.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Pamela Hoffman said the suspects showed up to the Desert View Community Correctional-Adelanto Detention Center at 10450 Rancho Rd. “Employees from (the jail),” said Hoffman, “reported that two females were scheduled to visit inmates at the facility and it was believed they would attempt to bring methamphetamine into the facility. Employees believed the females planned to transfer the methamphetamine to inmates during their visits.”

Deputy Brett Haynes investigated the claims and, while working with the jail employees to identify the female suspects, eventually received word about their arrival at the facility. Deputies made contact with both Alcantar and Espinoza in the parking lot.

Alcantar was discovered with methamphetamine in her mouth, and they and believed Espinoza had swallowed methamphetamine which she had been holding in her mouth. While both were arrested, Espinoza was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment connected to the swallowing of methamphetamine. Both women were booked at the High Desert Detention Center.

On June 23, felony charges were filed against both suspects by the Victorville District Attorney’s office. Both are being held on $25,000 bail. It was not revealed for whom the drugs were actually intended for, nor was it divulged if anyone else was suspected as the target for the drugs.
