Walmart Burglary Suspects Caught

BAKERSFIELD — A pair of suspects wanted for stealing items in the parking lot of a Bakersfield Walmart back in July were arrested last Friday, thanks to a tip from an anonymous caller.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the pair, who were being sought by police, were identified by a unidentified witness.

The tip provided by the witness led police to the Shorts, who are accused of burglarizing items from inside a locked vehicle parked in the parking lot of the Walmart store located at 8400 Rosedale Highway in the northwest Bakersfield community of Rosedale at around 1:30 p.m. on July 23. Before officers arrived, the Shorts fled the scene in a vehicle in an unknown direction.

Shawn Frederick Short, 45, and 33-year-old Cassie Short, AKA Cassie Chambers, both from Bakersfield, were arrested for grand theft and conspiracy on August 24, at around 4 p.m., while they were already in custody at the Kern County Lerdo Jail facility on unrelated charges.

Records show that the couple were also arrested on July 19 for assault with a deadly weapon likely to cause great bodily injury, and child endangerment. Cassie Chambers/Short was also charged with possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia, and with bringing it into a jail facility.
