Transient Stabs Other Transient

The San Luis Obispo Police have a man in custody who allegedly stabbed another man in an unprovoked attack on Thursday night.

According to SLOPD, officers responded to a call at the intersection of Broad and Industrial for a stabbing that had just occurred around 1:09 a.m.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a 61-year-old male transient victim with a puncture wound to his abdomen. The investigation revealed the suspect was Daniel Allen, 43, also a SLO transient.

Investigators spoke to the victim and an unnamed witness who claim Allen and the victim are acquaintances, but were not together prior to the attack. According to the victim’s and a witness’ statement, the attack was unprovoked and came without any warning. They said after the attack Allen fled on foot prior to officers arriving.

The victim was transported to Sierra Vista by ambulance where he was admitted for treatment. It is unknown what the victim’s status in the hospital was at time of press.

Officers located the suspect a short time later at the Edna Valley Shell gas station, located at Broad and Tank Farm. Allen was arrested without incident and was booked at the SLO County Jail on a charge of felony assault with a deadly weapon. Allen’s bail was set at $25,000.
