CHP Helicopter Assists in Arrest

SALINAS—Salinas Police Department, with an assist of the California Highway Patrol and their helicopter, were able to arrest two 17-year-old teenagers and one adult teen for attempted burglary in a West Salinas neighborhood on Wednesday.

On Wednesday July 2, County Communications received a call from a family member of a female teen that reported to them that her house was being broken into. The girl was in the house in the morning hours when she heard what sounded like someone trying to get into the house via the window.

18-year-old Justin Pleasont was the only "adult" in the group.

She immediately hid somewhere in the house and contacted the reporting party via text message, who then called the police. Officers arrived at the residence on the 200 block of Arguello Drive in the West Salinas within minutes.

Upon arrival, police made entry into the house and searched for possible suspects inside the home. They witnessed from the back of the house three suspects about to make entry into the home. Can you say, “Caught red-handed?”

Seeing the police already in the house, the three individuals fled the backyard by jumping the fence. It just so happened that the California Highway Patrol helicopter was in the air, and was in the area within seconds.

“With the CHP helicopter we were able to locate and arrest the three individuals” Salinas Police Commander Henry Gomez wrote in a press release. The Salinas Police arrested 18-year-old Justin Pleasont and booked him into the Monterey County Jail.

The other two teens were also arrested and booked into Monterey County Juvenile Hall. All three were charged with attempted burglary, conspiracy to comment burglary and resisting arrest. Pleasont also faces an additional charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
