Investigation into thwarted kidnapping continues

LOMPOC — Police forces responded to Ryon Park Friday morning to investigate a report of attempted kidnapping at 802 W. Ocean Ave.

The suspect, described as a Hispanic male between 40 and 50 years of age, was in the process of abducting a 2-year-old child when a daycare provider stepped in and returned the child to safety. The suspect had fled the scene by the time police arrived.

Police unveil civilian schooling dates, terms

LOMPOC — K-9 and SWAT operations, narcotics investigations, criminal law, and patrol procedures may be standard fare for the men and women of Lompoc’s police force, but rarely does the opportunity arise for civilians to experience these and other core tenets of a law enforcement career firsthand.

The Lompoc Citizens’ Police Academy will provide that opportunity twice this year, with classes scheduled to begin on March 25 and Aug. 5.

Parole search leads to meth bust

LOMPOC — Yesterday’s search of a garage on the 1000 block of West Chestnut Avenue culminated in two arrests and the seizure of suspected methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $185,000.

Police ramp up DUI efforts for holidays

LOMPOC – Lest the revelry of the holiday season take too strong a hold on the community and its drivers, the Lompoc Police Department conducted three separate DUI checkpoints between the 18th and the 22nd, notching approximately 30 arrests in the process.

Gun-waving subject remains at large

LOMPOC — Reports of an unidentified subject exhibiting erratic behavior and waving a gun on the 1100 block of N. Sixth Street caused the Lompoc Police Department to dispatch both officers and members of its Special Enforcement Team to the area Monday evening.
