Taft Man Arrested for Domestic Assault

TAFT — A 42-year-old Taft man was arrested on Saturday for sending a woman to the hospital after severely beating her.

Michael Ray Hastings was booked into the Kern County Jail’s Central Receiving Facility on charges of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse/cohabitant, battery on a person; receiving stolen property and felony vandalism.

According to the Kern County Sherriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of domestic battery occurring in the South Taft area at around 3:30 p.m. on April 19.

Upon arrival, deputies said they made contact with Hastings who fled the scene but was later caught hiding in a neighboring back yard.

After resisting arrest, Hastings was taken into custody.

While examining the interior of the home where the alleged assault occurred, deputies said they located a stolen Kern County street sign in a room that had been vandalized during the altercation.

The 47-year old female victim sustained injuries to her face and mouth and suffered a possible concussion.  She was treated a local area hospital, where she received stitches to the inside and outside of her mouth.
