Suspect attempts to stab a man and his brothers

The Paso Robles Police arrested a man after he allegedly tried to stab some locals on Monday.

According to PRPD, they received a call around 5:20 p.m. regarding a male suspect who had attempted to stab another person near an apartment building in the area of the 1200 block of Corral Creek. Witnesses told police the suspect was running away from the area towards Creston Road.

One of the victims, an adult male, told police the suspect had challenged him to fight, even though there was not any provocation. The victim told police he did not fight the suspect and started to to leave the area to avoid a confrontation. Then two of his brothers, one adult and one juvenile, met up with him and as they walked away from the area. However, the suspect caught up with them and began to chase them with a knife.

The victim said the suspect yelled he was going to stab him and his brothers, and swung the knife at them. Although all the brothers fled, one of the two adults suffered a minor cut to his elbow. The suspect then fled on foot.

When officers arrived in the area, they were able to locate a subject matching the suspect’s description near the intersection of Creston and Cedarwood.

They attempted to detain the man, who fled into the public restrooms at Sherwood Park. Officers found him and ordered the suspect out of the restroom, and he complied. He was detained without further incident.

Police found a folding knife on the man, and a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine in the area where he had been hiding. The adult male victim positively identified the suspect.

The suspect, Rafael Aguilar Anguiano, 20 of Paso Robles, was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon, misdemeanor resisting arrest and misdemeanor possession of narcotics paraphernalia. Anguiano was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail. Police say the incident is still under investigation and does not appear to be gang-related.

Records show the suspect had been arrested in January of 2014 for evading Paso Robles police when they tried to pull him over in a traffic stop, and for 3 outstanding warrants. He fled in his pickup truck before stopping and running away on foot, and was eventually caught and arrested. In October of 2013 he had been charged with loitering or prowling on private property, giving false identification, and probation violations. Those two arrests were followed in October 2014 by a charge of possessing drug paraphernalia and for outstanding warrants.
