Suspect Arrested in Connection to Visalia Stabbing

VISALIA – A suspect has been arrested in connection to an assault on Tuesday evening that left one man dead outside of an apartment complex in north Visalia.

Officers responded to a 911 call on Tuesday around 5:45 p.m. When they arrived on the scene, at the intersection of NW 2nd Avenue and North Strawberry Street, they found the victim alive and lying in the front yard of a residence. The victim, identified as 29-year-old Carlos Tapia, was suffering from what officers believe was a stab wound.

Emergency personnel performed CPR on Tapia and then transported him to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police detained Kyle Ferguson for questioning immediately after the incident, and later arrested him. He is being held without bail.

Police are trying to determine the motive for the assault and whether it was gang-related. They said they are canvassing the neighborhood and interviewing witnesses. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police department at 734-8116.
