San Francisco – On Wednesday May 6th, officers patrolling the area near 3rd Street and LaSalle Avenue recognized a woman loitering in the area from which she had been issued a drug-related stay away order.
A stay away order prohibits a known offender from visiting a particular area, often associated with the sale of narcotics. According to a 2012 SF Gate article, officers adopted the enforcement measure as a means to combat repeat offenders.
On this particular day, police arrested 42-year-old Nneka Nash of San Francisco for stay away order violations, as well as an outstanding warrant for her arrest. Nash had been arrested on September 7 of last year near the corner of 3rd Street and La Salle for loitering with intent to engage in drug activity, having an open container in a public place, possession of drug paraphernalia, and an outstanding warrant. Then on January 14 of this year she was arrested on a warrant for failing to appear in court on the previous charge, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
In 2012, Ms. Nash made headlines when she was accused of abandoning a newborn baby who tested positive for cocaine at birth. Nash pleaded not guilty in that case. Officers were lauded for rushing the newborn to the hospital while performing CPR. The newborn was treated at the hospital and survived.
