Stalking suspect arrested for threats, police chase

SANTA ROSA – It was late Friday night, August 21, when a woman, who was with her adult daughter at a friend’s home on North Street, a few blocks from Santa Rosa High School and Santa Rosa Junior College, called police to report threats of violence against her daughter.

According to Sergeant Summer Black of the Santa Rosa police, the caller reported that her daughter’s ex-boyfriend, 40-year-old Sean Michael Cronk, was at the location, and looking for her. He had already left messages on the woman’s phone threatening to harm the woman’s daughter, and had previously said he was going to cut her throat.

Officers responded to the location, and learned that Cronk had a warrant out on him for stalking, and that he may be armed and dangerous. The first officers to arrive spotted a vehicle leaving the area that matched the description of Cronk’s. They tried pull him over, but he sped away, up North Street. They pursued him northbound, reaching speeds of over 80 miles per hour on city streets as he then headed left and over the 101 Freeway. He then drove down Range Avenue, pulling into an apartment complex and jumping out, running to one of the units. (According to the arrest record, he does not live at those apartments.)

The officers caught up with him, and after a brief battle to get him under control, he was taken into custody. He was treated for some minor injuries at a local hospital before being booked into the Sonoma County main detention center and booked for the felony warrant, reckless evasion, and resisting arrest.

Cronk had been arrested earlier this year, on February 11 at the Sonoma County Airport, for obstructing or resisting an officer. Earlier records show that back in 2005, when he was 29-years-old, he had been arrested for burglary, unauthorized use of someone’s personal information, and passing an invalid check. It was noted that he had served a prior prison term, but details of that history were not available.
