SLO Police Catch Fleeing Vandal

The San Luis Obispo Police Department has a man in custody for allegedly vandalizing multiple vehicles last week.

According to SLOPD, they received a call early Friday morning around 2:49 a.m. to the report of vandalism in progress on the 200 block of Foothill Road. The caller reported the suspect was walking in the road and throwing unknown objects at vehicle windows causing damage. The caller also gave police the suspect’s description.

When officers arrived on the scene they located a male who matched the witness’ description. When police attempted to contact the suspect he fled on foot but was captured a few blocks away by officers. Police say the investigation revealed the suspect, Charles Evert, 21, of San Luis Obispo was the responsible party.

According to SLOPD, a total of six vehicles were damaged. Evert was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail for felony vandalism. His bail was $10,000. Evert was arrested in July for driving under the influence, and in June for public intoxication.
