Shooting Victim ID’d but Motive Still Unknown

SACRAMENTO–The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the man whose body was found on a street in the Arden Arcade area of Sacramento on Monday December 15 following a fatal shooting. He has been identified as Jemahl A. Loharsingh, 23, of Sacramento.

The shooting happened near this Arden Arcade apartment building.

Several calls were received just after 5 p.m. on Monday after gunshots were heard at Church Avenue and Bell Street. When deputies arrived they found Loharsingh, who had been shot and was lying on the ground in the 2300 block of Church Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. Records show Loharsingh lived far from the location of the shooting, in South Sacramento near Florin and Power Inn Roads.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene and conducted interviews with witnesses. A motive for the shooting has not yet been determined and no suspects have been identified. However, investigators do believe there could be multiple suspects involved.

Loharsingh had a history of crime related activities in the past few years, according to law enforcement records. He had been arrested three times in the past five months on possession of drugs and paraphernalia, along with resisting arrest. In May of this year, he was charged with inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or co-habitant (domestic violence) as well as abuse. He faced two charges of resisting or obstructing an officer prior to that, and in October of 2013 he was arrested for robbery, conspiracy, and probation violations.

Arrests prior to those include a June 2013 charge of possession and transportation for sales of a controlled substance, and an April of 2011 charge of possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. It is unknown if any of these prior incidents had any relation or connection to the incident resulting in Loharsingh’s shooting death, but they may lead detectives to possible clues to his connection and involvement in the sometimes lethal business of illegal drug sales, and his sometimes violent nature.
