On Saturday night, June 20 at around 10 pm, the Santa Cruz Police responded to a report of a “residential burglary in progress.” The caller stated that an unknown male was trying to make entry to their home.

According to the caller, the man had been beating on the metal screen door of their residence. Torres continued to try to make entry into the house even after being shouted at by one of the residents of the house.

The resident was able thwart Torrez’s entry into the house by using a wooden practice sword, forcing Torres back outside and eventually onto the ground. Torres, not willing to give up, smashed a clay pot from the property and threw a shard through the window, injuring a resident.

Officers got there in time to witness Torres being chased from the residence by the homeowner. The Officer order Torres to stop, but he ignored the officer’s warning and kept running away. The officer gave chase and was soon joined by six of his fellow officers and a canine unit. Within several deep breaths later, Torrez was apprehended and arrested. A witness at the scene positively identified him.

Torres was taken to the Santa Cruz County Jail where he was booked on multiple charges of resisting arrest, assault with a deadly weapon, making threats, burglary, vandalism, and let’s not forget disorderly conduct.
