Released Inmate Rearrested After Allegedly Attacking Aunt

FRESNO – A suspect was rearrested over the weekend after he allegedly attacked his aunt with a hammer after being released from jail.

Anthony Jesus Palomino was originally being held on jail on allegations that he burglarized vehicles belonging to family members during a funeral. He was released from jail due to overcrowding last week, according to authorities.

Hours after leaving jail, Palomino allegedly attacked his aunt with the claw side of a hammer. The incident took place last Thursday around 5:40 a.m. at the aunt’s home on the 200 block of West Robinson Avenue in central Fresno. The aunt was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where she was treated for moderate injuries.

Police do not know what Palomino’s motive was for the attack. Afterward, he allegedly left his aunt’s home riding a bicycle.

Palomino was arrested Saturday in a detached garage where he was living in the 4100 block of East Iowa Avenue. Police say he has an extensive criminal history.
