Prowler arrested is shooting suspect

Benicia – James Bivens, an 18-year-old male with no fixed address, was arrested on a felony warrant for a shooting incident that took place in Benicia in October 2012. He’s charged with opening fire at a vehicle, and is being held without bail.

In the initiating incident last October, Benicia police responded to a call stating shots had been fired on Vista Grande Avenue. They found an unoccupied vehicle that had been fired at, and witnesses described James Bivens as the responsible party. Other witnesses said he’d been driving a red Ford Mustang.

When a prowler was spotted in this neighborhood, Bivens was captured and identified as the shooting suspect

Last week Benicia police were called to the area of East 6th Street and East J Street regarding a suspected prowler. In the process of searching the area officers located Bivens in back of a residence on the 1000 block of East 6th Street. He was known to the officers, who also knew he had an outstanding felony arrest warrant but had evaded attempts to find him. Bivens was arrested without incident and booked into Solano County Jail.

A police press report about this incident emphasizes the importance of witnesses who came forward to identify Bivens.
