Police Investigate Shooting, Make an Arrest In Another Case

HOLLISTER—Investigators with the Hollister Police Department are looking for two suspects in a Monday evening shooting that left the family members of 31-year-old Hollister resident Daniel “Danny Boy” Cadenas grieving for his loss.

On Monday evening, July 14 at about 10:15 pm., Hollister Police Officers responded to the 900 block of Prospect Avenue on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they discovered Daniel Cadenas suffering from gunshot wounds. Cadenas was flown to a Bay Area Trauma Center for treatment of his injuries, but succumbed to them and died on Tuesday, July 15.

Family members said that Daniel would routinely walk his dog along that track at Rancho San Justo School. He was very health conscious and loved to play sports, and loved to jog and exercise at the school.

Investigators are actively looking for two Hispanic Male Adults as suspects in this senseless shooting. Suspect #1 is described as approximately 5-foot-7 with a medium build and was wearing a dark hoodie, baseball cap, dark pants and white shoes.  Suspect #2 is described as approximately the same height as the other suspect, but with a thin build and wearing a white tank top and dark pants.

Police investigators have not yet revealed any motive for the shooting. They are asking for the public’s help in this case. If anyone who witnessed any part of this incident or who knows anything about the shooting is encouraged to contact the Hollister Police Department at 831-636-4330.

The Hollister Police Department has also made a second arrest in the Chevron Gas station shooting that occurred on Sunday, July 6 at the end of the Motorcycle Rally that happened over the 4th of July weekend.

Police announced Tuesday that they have arrested 27-year-old Sacramento resident Lamar Guy Jones Copeland for his part in the shooting.

Hollister authorities worked closely with the Sacramento Police Department after they discovered evidence that he was in the Sacramento area. Copeland is part of the “Wino’s Crew” biker club that was in a confrontation with the “Boozefighters” outside the Chevron Station following the rally. Three people were hospitalized in the incident.

“We would like to thank the Sacramento Police Department Criminal Intelligence Unit for their assistance in Locating Copeland.” Hollister Police Captain wrote in a press release.

Hollister investigators drove to Sacramento to arrest Copeland and transport him back to San Benito County. He was booked into the San Benito County Jail on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and a felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held without bail.
