Palm Desert Visitor DUIs Leave a Trail of Property Damage over the Weekend

PALM DESERT – Two drivers in two different incidents, both reportedly under the influence of alcohol, left a wake of destruction before their arrests this weekend.

Responding to a single vehicle traffic collision on Saturday, June 28, officers from the Rancho Mirage Police Department arrived at Monterey Avenue and Country Club Drive. At the scene, authorities to discovered Edna Gonzalez, 20 years old of Indio, inside the vehicle.

Gonzales had failed to maintain a straight course of travel and took out a few obstacles in her way. According to a press release from the Riverside Sheriff’s Department, Gonzalez’ vehicle collided with a Time Warner Cable box, a Solar Tech traffic control billboard trailer sign, and a metal posted traffic control sign, all of which were located just west of southbound Monterey Avenue.

Gonzalez was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and booked into the county jail in Indio after she was treated and released at a local hospital.

A second, similar incident occurred on Monday, June 29 in the early morning hours. This time officers from the Palm Desert Police Department arrived at the intersection of Country Club Drive and Desert Country Circle, responding to a reported single vehicle traffic collision.

Upon investigation, officers ascertained that a white Nissan Sentra ad been traveling eastbound on Country Club Drive approaching the intersection with Desert Country Circle. According to a press release, the Sentra drove onto a raised center median where it collided with a cactus, a street sign and a sprinkler pipe.

Carmen Olvera, age 27 from Van Nuys, was reported to be driving the vehicle while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Olvera was not injured as a result of the collision. She was taken to a local hospital for observation and later booked into Riverside County Jail in the city of Indio for driving while under the influence of alcohol.
