Narcotics detectives happen upon a meth user and seller

LAKEPORT, LAKE COUNTY – Narcotics detectives were not planning on arresting Kory Hudson yesterday, but he just happened to be in the right place to draw their attention.

On Tuesday morning about 10:00, Lake Sheriff’s Narcotics detectives were in Lakeport to conduct a probation search, in an effort to insure their subject was living up to the terms of his or her sentence. According to Steve Brooks of the Sheriff’s office, they noticed that a gold Chevrolet pickup truck was parked nearby and that the driver was sitting inside. They approached and greeted the driver, perhaps out of concern he may have been visiting their paroled subject.

As they conversed with the man, 32-year-old Kory Daniel Hudson, who lives nearby, they noticed some tell-tale signs that he was under the influence of a controlled substance. They asked Hudson to get out of the truck so they could run field tests to see if he was intoxicated. He cooperated, yet failed the tests. He was then arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance, and searched.

Two bags of meth were found in Hudson's possession.

He was found to be in possession of two ziplock bags full of white crystal powder, which turned out to be methamphetamine. It was later weighed, and determined to be 123.8 grams, or 4.36 ounces. A typical dose for a meth user is around 100 milligrams, so what Hudson was carrying is far more typical of a dealer than a user alone. For that reason, the charges of possession of a controlled substance for sale and transportation of a controlled substance were added on to his charges.

He was taken to the Hill Road Correctional facility, where he was booked and is being held, with bail set at $35,000.00. A records search did not show any prior arrests for drugs or other charges.
