Mom and Dad and Meth

Mom and Dad and Meth

July 24, 2014 – Santa Barbara, Ca.

Those who know often say that raising children in today’s world “takes a village.”  Those who sell drugs and possess loaded assault weapons in the same home where they’re raising kids might elaborate on that adage with “it takes a village of lawyers and bailbond agents,” because those who parent in that style in Santa Barbara surely need good criminal defense and substantial bail money.

On July 23rd, according to Santa Barbara Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Riley Harwood, that eternal verity surfaced once again for Armando Arrayga, 27, and his 25-year-old wife Jasmin Arrayga as they were busted “for possession of methamphetamine for sale, transportation of methamphetamine, and child endangerment”.

Both husband and wife had been under some prior suspicion leading to an investigation by SBPD Narcotics Detectives regarding the ongoing sale of methamphetamine under the couple’s auspices.  With search warrant in hand, detectives appeared at the Arrayga’s Loma Alta Drive residence on July 18th, but did not make contact with them until the middle of the day on the 23rd when they were spotted driving through downtown Santa Barbara.  A traffic stop was performed at that time, with both suspects in their car along with their 9-year-old son.

A search of the vehicle revealed “5.2 grams of methamphetamine contained in eight small baggies,” Harwood reported.  The family was detained at that point, and an hour later, the warrant search of their home revealed “an additional 133.5 grams of methamphetamine, a scale, an AR-15 rifle with two loaded 10-round magazines, and over $1,400 in cash,” all clear indications of involvement in illicit drug sales.  Because much of the evidence was found in areas clearly accessible to their son, child endangerment issues immediately became apparent.

Both Arraygas were then transported to Santa Barbara County Jail for booking on the aforementioned charges as well as possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, narcotics offenses within 1,000 feet of a school, and certain enhancements relating to the large volume of meth found in the residence.  Husband and wife remain in custody with bail set at $100,000 each.
