Marin County Sheriff’s Office Identifies Homicide Suspect

SAN RAFAEL – According to a Press Release issued by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office a suspect has been identified in a recent Marin City homicide.

On Sunday, May 10, a 35-year-old Vallejo man was fatally shot in Marin City after attending a Saturday memorial service for a family friend. The friend had died as a result of a another shooting two weeks earlier, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Shortly after 1:00 am the Marin County Sheriff’s Office had received multiple 911 calls about shots being fired in the vicinity of an apartment at 79 Cole Drive. The victim was there with others mourning the death of his friend. He had walked outside the apartment and was soon after found lying down in front of the complex. At the time of the shooting there were three deputies patrolling on foot about a block away. They found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen. He was transported to Marin General Hospital, where he died during surgery due to the severity of his wounds. The deputies had also secured the crime scene and found bullet casings nearby.

During the course of the investigation since the time of the shooting, the suspect has been identified as Joseph Montgomery. He is a 34-year-old man from Marin City. He is described as 5’4” and 150 lbs. The firearm used is still unaccounted for, and the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. Montgomery has family living in Marin City, San Jose, Vallejo and Santa Rosa. He has no known vehicles.

Another shooting incident in January of this year at the same apartment complex resulted in the arrest of Tyrell Bland, also from Vallejo, and his father Terrell Bland Sr. No one was hurt in that incident.
