Man brandishes weapon out in public

A Novato man spent much of Wednesday evening in Marin County Jail after brandishing a firearm in public, as detailed in a press release by Lieutenant Jennifer Welch of the Novato Police Department.

NPD received a report of a man with a firearm at people and cars in a public parking lot on Cherry Street, a two-block road. Patrol officers reported to the scene at 9:20 p.m. and quickly positioned themselves around the suspect. From the perimeter officers had established, they observed that the suspect was waving a .30-06 rifle with a laser sight feature at passersby and their vehicles “with careless disregard,” as Welch writes in the press release.

The patrol officers made contact with the suspect, later identified at 60-year-old local resident Ronald Dennis. Officers were able to approach and arrest Dennis at the scene without incident. The patrol officers placed Dennis under arrest on charges of brandishing a firearm in public and possession of narcotics. They booked the suspect into Marin County Jail out of concern that his behavior might not end with his arrest.
