Juvenile Taken Into Custody for Stolen Vehicle

Members of the Chico Police Department Gang Unit have taken into custody a 17 year-old juvenile in connection with a vehicle stolen out of Oroville.

1st and Wall, where the suspect was arrested

The members of the Gang Unit were in the area of E. 1st Street and Wall Street when they noticed a silver Chrysler PT Cruiser driving slowly on 1st street. All was well until the vehicle began to drive on the wrong side of the road. The Gang Detectives then did a D.M.V Records check of the vehicle only to find that it had been stolen out of Oroville.

The detectives then waited for marked unites to arrive at the scene and a high risk vehicle stop was conducted. The vehicle came to a stop, and orders were given to the driver and passenger to exit the vehicle, with neither complying with the officer’s commands. The driver then reversed the vehicle into a Chico P.D. Patrol Unit. Officers approached the vehicle and broke both the driver’s and passenger’s side windows to remove the driver and passenger. They were then taken into custody without incident.

The driver’s name has been withheld due to his age, but he is described as an African American juvenile from Oroville.

The female passenger was later arrested for public intoxication.
