Janitor Arrested for Cruelty, DUI, Drugs on Super Bowl Sunday

INGLEWOOD—If you’re going to drink, don’t drive; if you’re going to drink and drive, don’t do drugs; and if you insist on all that, perhaps stay away from children lest you end up in jail..

Daniel Gonzalez, 40, apparently failed to heed any of that advice on Sunday, February 1. He was arrested at approximately 10 p.m. by Inglewood police officers (IPD) at the corner of North Eucalyptus Avenue and Centinela Avenue in Inglewood’s District 2. The Los Angeles resident, a janitor, was charged with willful cruelty to children likely to produce Grievous Bodily Injury (GBI) or death (237A(A)PC), DUI alcohol/drugs (23152(A)VC), DUI alcohol/0.08 percent blood-alcohol content (23152(B)VC), crossing a flare or cone pattern (2818VC) and failing to obey a sign indicating exclusive lanes (21655(B)VC).

The area where he was arrested is well-known for heavy gang activity as well as a great number of unsolved shooting homicides throughout 2013 and 2014. It is also half a block west of the area’s Inglewood police beat community center at the corner of North La Brea Avenue and Centinela.

It is unknown if there was a DUI checkpoint set up by the IPD that Super Bowl Sunday, a day well known for overuse of alcohol, domestic abuse and violence in general. What is known is that the total bail for Gonzalez five violations was set at $110,105.
