Investigators Arrest A Major Drug Supplier

Suspect was arrested in Southern San Mateo County

SAN MATEO—Authorities of Santa Cruz County have arrested a man who they think is a major supplier to the Santa Cruz County Drug scene.  Arrested on Monday was 25-year-old Pescadero resident Alexander ‘Carlos’ Santiago-Gonzalez.

Members of the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime team (SCCACT) served a search warrant at Santiago-Gonzalez residence after a 3-month investigation of a drug trafficking ring. The warrant was issue by a Superior County Judge of Santa Cruz County resulting from a previous drug conviction in Santa Cruz County in 2011.

SCCACT employed the help of the Santa Cruz County Sheriff Department’s SWAT Team due to the threat of firearms.  The Sheriff’s Department SWAT team encountered Santiago-Gonzalez as he drove up to the intersection of Gazos Creek Road and Highway 1 in San Mateo County.

They were able to taken him into custody without incident.  A search of his vehicle revealed that he was transporting three and a half-ounces methamphetamine, and one and half ounce of heroin.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office executed the search warrant at his residence on the 3100 block on Cloverdale Road in Pescadero. He was arrested six miles from his residence.

The search revealed 11 more ounces of methamphetamine. They also found numerous weapons in his possession. Three of the 14 guns were assault rifles, two AR-15’s and M11 9mm pistol with extended magazines.

“We believed that Santiago-Gonzalez, who was known on the street as ‘Carlos’ was a significant source of the supply of methamphetamine and heroin to several local drug traffickers in Santa Cruz County.” Mario Sulay SCCACT Commander wrote in a press release.

Agents with SCCACT transported and booked Santiago-Gonzalez in the San Mateo County Jail. He faces charges of transporting methamphetamine and heroin for sale, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of assault rifles, and possession of firearms while in possession of drugs for sale.
