Hollister Man Gets 12 Years For Arson

Suspect Was Arrested in 2013

HOLLISTER—The San Benito County District Attorney’s Office announced that a Hollister Man pleaded guilty to several counts of arson. Jason Wayne Spears, who was arrested back in 2013, received a 12-year sentence and ordered to pay restitution.

If you remember, we reported about a series of arson attacks back in 2012, the major one being a large fire that destroyed several medical offices on Sunnyslope Road.  The fire continued one for several months they ranged from several small residential, commercial and vehicle fires.

Spears was arrested on February 9, 2013 after he was seen trying to set fire to condo. Further investigation connected Spears to several additional fires and attempted arsons.

On Monday December 29, Spears pleaded guilty to several arson charges that included the incident on SunnySlope, a fire on Somme Avenue, several vehicle fires on Juniper Drive and Gibson Drive, a medial office fire on Sunset Drive, a residential fire on San Benito Street and two commercial fires on San Benito Street and Prospect Avenue.

He also pleaded guilty to six separate fires within the Gibson Street Condos. Spears was sentenced to serve 12 years in prison and ordered to pay restitution to the victims.

“The Hollister Police Department would like to thank the citizens who called the police that led to Spears arrest.” Hollister Police Captain Carlos Reynoso said,  “Hollister Police who made arrest and fire personnel that did the investigation.”
