Hemet Parents Arrested for Weapons Violations and Child Endangerment

HEMET- After thwarting an alleged home invasion, authorities arrested a suspect under suspicion of discharging weapon in his own home with his children present.

In the early hours of Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, Sheriff’s dispatch received a call regarding a man armed with a knife who had forced his way into a home. Deputies responded to the 41000 block of Whittier Avenue, in East Hemet, where they found the assailant still on the premises.  Arming himself with a handgun, the home’s occupant had held the suspect at bay while waiting for authorities.

The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Jay Dossey, who was taken into custody without incident. However, the man informed deputies that his family was in danger at his own residence down the street.

Deputies located the residence where they found the suspect’s wife and three small children. All the occupants were unharmed, but on further investigation, deputies discovered some disturbing evidence. According to Sergeant Wallace Clear it appeared that numerous shots had been fired within that home and that they occurred with the suspects wife and children present.

After searching, deputies found several weapons including handguns and a semi-automatic rifle which were taken into evidence. Clear noted that there was also narcotic paraphernalia present in the home. Further inquiry revealed that both parents had felony convictions, which would prohibit them from having firearms in their possession.

Jay Dossey and his wife, 35-year-old, Kelee Dossey were arrested for unlawful discharge of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, and child endangerment. Child Protective Services was called to the scene and removed the children from the home. CPS is currently conducting a separate investigation. Jay Dossey’s bail has been set at $500,000, while Kelee Dossey’s bail is yet to be determined.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s department asks that anyone with additional information on this case to contact Investigator Burden at (951) 791-3400.
