Heat of Passion Turns into Firebomb Attempt

Heat of Passion Turns into Firebomb Attempt

Santa Barbara County – Chad Ramos, a 34-year old resident of Santa Maria apparently had the hots for a lady who was no longer interested in the warm affection he was interested in sharing with her. But unrequited love occasionally has a way of fueling the flames of male desire to the point of irrationality sparking behaviors that one might consider “too hot to handle”.

If the events leading to Ramos’ arrest in the pre-dawn hours of February 17th as alleged by Santa Maria Police Department officers responding to a 911 Emergency call at an East Grant Street home are any indication, he certainly allowed his feelings for his ex-girlfriend to spontaneously combust into flammably felonious foolishness.

According to SMPD Ofcr R. Torres, the female object of Ramos’ passions reported that at approximately 4:00 a.m. on the 17th he threw “a homemade incendiary device” at her house and then hot-footed it out of the area. Arriving officers discovered what appeared to be a version of a “Molotov cocktail”—a plastic bottle filled with gasoline with a raglike fuse—lying in an adjacent driveway, apparently extinguished by errant contact with a trailer parked in the residence driveway.

As Ramos had previously been arrested on February 2nd and charged with unauthorized entry of the same house, officers had reasonable suspicion that he was involved in this incident. They subsequently made contact with him at his home where he was arrested and taken into custody. Ramos was then transported to Santa Barbara County Jail where he was booked on charges of arson and terrorist threats, with his bail set at $250,000.

Perhaps next time he’ll simply go with the old Valentine’s Day standby: a box of chocolates.
