The Hollister Police Department asked for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in a Friday evening burglary that took place at the Safeway store on Tres Pinos Road in Hollister.

On Friday evening at about 6:37 p.m., an unknown suspect walked into Safeway and right over to the liquor department. Proving himself to be a man who knows what he wants, he was seen walking out less than a minute later with what appeared to be multiple bottles of liquor in his left hand and a knife in his right.

Although the thief was caught on surveillance video, an alert citizen also noticed the theft and alerted management, who called police once they viewed the surveillance tape and witnessed the incident. The suspect appeared to be between 18 and 20 years old, unshaven with shoulder-length wavy hair, wearing a red shirt and jeans. The footage only shows said suspect as he walked out, so it is unknown whether he walked away on foot or left in a car.

On June 2nd, the Hollister Police Department identified the suspect as Alfredo Gonzalez (25) of San Juan Bautista.  An investigation led investigators to contact Gonzalez who was already in County Jail on a unrelated charge.  The charge of the commercial burglary was added on.

“We would like to thank the public who assisted the Police Department in this investigation,” Hollister Police Chief David Westrick said in a press release.

The Hollister Police Department is still asking that anyone with information related to this investigation to call 1-831-636-4330.  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous can call the WeTip line at 1-800-78-CRIME.
